PSL side makes coaching changes

Published on by

AmaZulu Football Club has announced the resignation of co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi, effective immediately. This leaves Arthur Zwane in place as the club's head coach.

The co-coaching structure was implemented in October after Pablo Franco Martin's tenure yielded disappointing results, placing Usuthu (AmaZulu) in a precarious position near the relegation places.

Under Zwane and Vilakazi's joint leadership, AmaZulu experienced an initial upturn in form, climbing to fifth in the league standings. However, their Nedbank Cup campaign ended with a Round of 16 defeat to Marumo Gallants.

This Tuesday, AmaZulu confirmed Vilakazi's departure, citing his personal wish to leave the position, thus confirming Zwane as the team's head coach moving forward.

AMAZULU RELEASES A STATEMENT ON VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI’S EXIT

“AmaZulu Football Club has announced the resignation of Co-Head Coach Vusi Vilakazi, who wished to step down with immediate effect,” stated Usuthu via a statement.

“In his letter of resignation, Vilakazi referred to the personal matters (which) require his urgent attention, making it impossible for him to fully commit to his responsibilities at the club.

“Club President Sandile Zungu has accepted Vilakazi’s request to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect. This transition leaves Arthur “Phakimpi” Zwane as the sole Head Coach, going forward.

“Bidding farewell to Vilakazi, Zungu expressed his gratitude, stating, “On behalf of the entire Usuthu family — players, technical and administrative personnel, supporters and board members — we wish Mpiyakhe all the best in his future endeavours.”

“AmaZulu will return to action in the Betway Premiership on 02 March, Sunday when they face Cape Town City at King Zwelithini Stadium.”
