Revealed: The Amount Chiefs refused to pay Spurs for Velebayi

Kaizer Chiefs were desperate to sign Asanele Velebayi from Cape Town Spurs in the concluded transfer window.

However, the Glamour Boys did not manage to convince the Urban Warriors to sign the 21-year-old. The winger's parents were involved at some point in their bid to get a truce, but nothing materialized and Velebayi remained with Spurs.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi was desperate to get an effective attacker after the struggles experienced in the 2023/24 campaign.

How much did Spurs want for Asanele Velebayi?

In his interview with Metro FM, the South Africa international's agent Lance Davids has revealed what the Urban Warriors wanted.

“Initially, [Spurs] wanted R12 million for Velebayi, but reduced it to R10 million [after later discussions],” he stated.

“So I think the valuation of Velebayi [by Spurs] was crazy, I think Chiefs, to be honest, were very fair on their proposal. [Amakhosi] offered R5 million plus players.”

Velebayi continues to shine

Chiefs failed to get their targets, especially in the attacking department; Oswin Appollis, Elias Mokwana, and Khanyisa Mayo were some of the players they wanted.

Velebayi has since been confirmed as Cape Town Spurs captain and was on target in the second-tier game played on Monday at the Athlone Stadium.

The Urban Warriors came from a goal down to register a 3-1 win, which is their second victory in the four league games they have played. The other two have ended in draws. It is interesting to see if Amakhosi will go for him in January if he maintains his form. Coach Nasreddine Nabi has insisted he will be in the market for lethal attackers.
