Richards Bay vs Kaizer Chiefs: Preview, team news & where to watch

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs continue their Premier Soccer League journey on Sunday with another crucial game against Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

While the Glamour Boys are hoping to at least get a Caf Competition slot by finishing inside the top three positions, the Natal Rich Boys are chasing a top-eight slot to get a chance to play in the MTN8 next season.

Currently, Amakhosi are eighth on the table with 29 points, eight less than their opponents.

Recent Form and Head-to-Head Record

This season, Chiefs have been unpredictable across all competitions; they have been inconsistent in getting positive results when it matters most.

After beating Magesi and Stellenbosch in the PSL and Nedbank Cup respectively, Chiefs' latest game against Cape Town City ended goalless.

Richards Bay have not had a good season either; in the last three matches, they have managed a win, loss, and draw. Despite a promising pre-season and signings, they have not delivered as expected.

Amakhosi have won four out of the last five PSL games played across all competitions with the Natal Rich Boys winning the remaining one. This season's initial meeting ended 2-1 in favour of the Soweto giants.

What They Said

After a recent goalless draw on Tuesday, coach Nasreddine Nabi was frustrated with his attackers' failure to score, and from his utterances, it is something he was set to address.

“What was missing was just putting the ball inside the net. It's not dramatic, but it's very bad because it's not the first time we have a chance to go back and we lose the points. If you remember from the start of the season, the mistake continued. Same.

“You have a chance to go up, you lose the chance. At the moment, you need evaluation. Why? Because you have a problem. Because today, the normal score is 3-0 or 4-0. We don't score, but I take responsibility.”

Team News and Starting XI

The hosts are set to be without their defender Keegan Allan and midfielder Tlakusani Mthethwa who are suspended after accumulating four yellow cards each.

The Glamour Boys have been suffering injuries to key players; Rushwin Dortley is the latest one, alongside Tashreeq Morris. While the latter returns within three weeks, the former is out for the rest of the season.

Goalkeeper Brendan Petersen is out suspended meaning Fiacre Ntwari will have a place on the bench.

Richards Bay Probable XI: Magoola, Mcineka, Gcaba, Dube, Ndaba, Mdantsane, Mhlongo, Macuphu, Figuareido, Mthembu, Mbuthuma

Kaizer Chiefs Probable XI: Bvuma, Miguel, Msimango, Edmilson, Frosler, Sirino, Cele, Ngcobo, Mmodi, Du Preez, Lilepo
