Riveiro given advice whether to start young Mbokazi against MC Alger

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has been given an advice on whether to field Mbekezeli Mbokazi against MC Alger.

The two sides will face off in the CAF Champions League quarterfinal first leg on Tuesday, 1 April at the Stade du 5 Juliet.

Citing Mbokazi's strong performance in a high-stakes league match against Mamelodi Sundowns, former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Thabani Stemmer has recommended to coach Riveiro that Mbokazi should start against the Algerian team.

Stemmer argues that this prior experience in a big game will give Mbokazi confidence, as he will not feel burdened by pressure.

‘THIS BOY IS WELL-PREPARED’

“The boy has proven his quality, so it wouldn't make sense to put him on the bench when his combination with Nkosinathi Sibisi has been working so well,” he told KickOff.

“I don't think he will face any problems against MC Alger. Just like Relebohile Mofokeng, this boy is well-prepared. These are the types of players who enjoy playing because they are not affected by pressure; they should be kept on the pitch.

“Such players can perform at any time and at any level. His combination with Sibisi is the strongest. He keeps it simple; he focuses on marking and releasing the ball.

“If you are talented, nothing will disturb you, no matter the level of competition. Mbulelo Mabizela was thrown into the deep end and ended up at Tottenham Hotspur. Age is just a number.”
