Riveiro singles out star performer after Pirates’ derby win

Makhehlene Makhaula's Man of the Match performance earned him high praise from Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro after their 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby.

The winning goal came from a late penalty converted by Patrick Maswanganyi at a packed FNB Stadium.

Riveiro believes Makhaula's performance was crucial to the victory, calling him the best player on the pitch and hoping he maintains this level of play.

‘HE WAS PUSHING THE TEAM IN BAD MOMENTS’

“His game today I think is second to none,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV in the post-match interview.

“It's something else, he was pushing the team in the bad moments, he was helping a lot to collect those second balls, carried the ball forward.

“He's playing excellent football, hopefully he can continue like that for a long time.”

Meanwhile, when I asked about the penalty, Riveiro stated that he didn’t see clearly from where he was standing.

“Not really,”he said when asked if he saw the penalty.

“I watched now in the bench in the monitor, it's difficult to say, I'm not gonna say anything, if the referee says it's a penalty in extra-time, it must be very clear.”
