Ex-Mamelodi Sundowns striker weighs in on Peter Shalulile’s indifferent form

Rodney Ramagalela has given his opinion on the Namibian striker’s recent struggles

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Rodney Ramagalela has backed Peter Shalulile to regain his form following his recent struggles in front of goal.

Shalulile has been valuable to Sundowns, bagging in goals for fun since the 2020-21 season, but saw his output greatly reduce in 2023-24, when he managed just nine league goals as injuries and poor form hampered his campaign.

Ramagalela feels the Namibian is still the real deal

That was his lowest return in the yellow of blue of Sundowns after managing 15, 23 and 12 league goals in the three previous campaigns and there have been doubts over his form, leading the club to bring in Brazilian striker Arthur de Oliveira Sales and Iqraam Rayners from Stellenbosch FC.

Ramagalela is, however, not worried about the Namibian international’s quality and feels he will soon regain his form and take back his place as the Brazilians’ leading marksman.

“Well, that’s football for you. As a player, you should know that you have good seasons throughout your football career,” Ramagalela told FARPost.

Can Shalulile fend off De Oliveira Sales and Rayners?

“With Peter, I know the boy. He will always find a way. The good thing about him is that he works very hard in everything he does.

“I still believe that he will still find his form again and score goals. I really have that faith in him.”

Shalulile has a big battle to maintain his place in the team given the presence of De Oliveira Sales and Rayners but the early signs are good as he was selected from the start during Sundowns’ first official match last weekend, the 1-0 victory over Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-final.
