A former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has backed Rulani Mokwena to do better than the most decorated South African coach Pitso Mosimane.

Mokwena has recently taken charge of the Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca after his unexpected departure from Bafana Ba Style last month.

He is following in the path of Mosimane, who left Masandawana in 2020 to lead the North African team Al Ahly.

‘Jingles' enjoyed a prosperous tenure with the prominent Egyptian club, securing two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, the Egyptian Cup, and the Egyptian League.

On the other hand, Mokwena faces a significant challenge in restoring the club's competitiveness, following its sixth-place finish in the Botola Pro last season.

Former Sundowns Brent Carelse praised Mokwena for his accomplishments at the Tshwane club, asserting that he merits an opportunity to advance in his career.

He is of the opinion that the 37-year-old strategist possesses the necessary qualities to achieve greater success than ‘Jingles’.

He expressed his wishes to see him in the prestigious leagues in the world such as English Premier League, Italian Serie A and German’s Bundesliga.

“Rulani has done a fantastic job at Sundowns. l think he has done very well and he deserves to go to those big leagues where he can follow Pitso’s [footsteps] you know,” Carelse told Soccer Laduma.

“I think Rulani has got the potential to even go further and hopefully one day we can see him in the Premier League, Bundesliga or Serie A, because he's a very good coach.”
