Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids has dropped a bold statement ahead of clashing with Stellenbosch FC in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The two teams are set to clash in a highly anticipated two-legged semifinal, each vying for a coveted place in the final. Notably, this marks the first time either side has reached this stage of the competition.

The first leg is scheduled to take place in Tanzania on Sunday, April 20th at 3:00 PM SAST at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

Ahead of the encounter, Davids revealed that they had anticipated facing Zamalek in the semifinal.

However, Stellenbosch unexpectedly defeated the Egyptian side, setting up a clash that Davids believes presents a “golden opportunity” for his team, despite acknowledging their respect for the Betway Premiership outfit.

‘IT’S A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR US’

“We didn’t expect them to lose to Stellenbosch, especially since they are the defending champions. As a club, we were surprised by the outcome,” said Davids.

“But Stellenbosch are a good team with pace, and they deserve all the respect. We saw Zamalek show them too much respect in Cape Town, and I believe that played a big role in the result.

“Of course, we are confident in our ability to make it to the final. What I know about Stellenbosch is that they are a strong, ambitious team. I’ve coached in South Africa, I know their coach and several of their players.

“This is a golden opportunity for us. It’s the first time in our history that we’ve reached this stage in the CAF Confederation Cup. We are more accustomed to competing in the CAF Champions League, but we are fully focused on making history in this tournament.”
