South Africa U17 national team started their 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a high, after defeating Egypt 4-3 in their Group B outing played late on Monday at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

Amajimbo started the game on a high note, trying to push forward with any chance that came their way.

Despite Egypt's quality, South Africa youngsters kept their cool and ensured they controlled the proceedings.

It's a crazy first half as six goals are scored!

Amajimbo scored within a minute after the kick-off after Emile Witbooi picked Simphiwe Mlondo in the danger zone. It was a goal that not only shocked the Egyptians but also gave South Africa the confidence it needed.

However, three minutes later, the opponents equalised after Ibrahim El Nagaawy slipped in Anas Roshdi, who held his nerve to find the back of the net. Egypt then took the lead for the first time in the game in the 13th minute courtesy of Anas Roshdi.

It got worse for Amajimbo in the 18th minute after Hamza Abdel Karim converted Mohamed Sherif's pass.

However, South Africa were given a lifeline with two penalties in the 27th and 41st minutes, respectively. Neo Bohloko converted from the spot to ensure no team had an advantage after the break.

It got interesting after the break with both teams employing a cautious approach to avoid conceding many goals as seen in the first half.

But it was South Africa who managed to penetrate the Egyptians once again in the 71st minute, when Bohloko found Witbooi in the final third, and the attacker did not hesitate hitting the target to win it for his team.

In another Group B match, Burkina Faso beat Cameroon 2-1 to secure maximum points in the pool. They are now second behind Amajimbo, who have superior stats.

The next game for South Africa will be on Thursday when they play Cameroon while Burkina Faso face Egypt.
