Soweto Derby: Chiefs already scared? ‘Pirates youngsters better than us’ – Shabalala

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala has admitted the Orlando Pirates youngsters are currently doing better than them.

Both Chiefs and Pirates are relying on young players this season with Relebohile Mofokeng, Thabiso Sesane and Mohau Nkota among the main men for Jose Rivero’s team while Shabalala, Wandile Duba and Mfundo Vilakazi have been crucial for Nasreddine Nabi’s side.

Heading into the Soweto derby on Saturday, Shabalala says it is true they are playing second fiddle to their counterparts across the city, comments that will ignite more fire before and during the match.

“We are not on the level of Pirates youngsters yet. I think the youngsters playing at Pirates are doing way better than us, not only here in South Africa but in the African continent,” said Shabalala as quoted by FARPost.

Why is Mdu lauding Bucs youngsters?

“You could see how they play. I think they gained a lot of experience at an early age because you see each and every game, and they are growing. I think it’s for us to learn from them and not be jealous because our time is coming.

“We just need to keep our heads up and work with the technical team at the club. I think we’ll reach our potential and be the best.”

Mofokeng has scored eight goals, with 11 assists to his name, while Nkota has four goals, same as Shabalala and Duba while Vilakazi has weighed in with two strikes.

With Duba injured, the other players will play a big part in the match, which has been christened ‘Cocomelon derby’ and fans are waiting to see which part of Soweto has the most talented youngsters.
