Soweto Derby: “Cocomelon Reloaded!” Youngsters who are set to show their hand

Orlando Pirates will play Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday in the Premier Soccer League's Soweto Derby.

The Buccaneers have had a better campaign owing to the quality of their squad. One of the reasons is the youngsters who have been delivering for them. They were promoted from the reserve team owing to their maturity.

Amakhosi have heavily relied on their young players after failing to sign the established ones. The Nasreddine Nabi-led team have been blowing hot and cold in the South African top-flight football.

Have a look at the youngsters who are expected to shine in the Soweto Derby this weekend.

Siyabonga Ndlozi

The 20-year-old defender is the latest player to be introduced to the Pirates' senior team this season. 

The right-back is not expected to play against Amakhosi owing to the competitive nature of the department. However, he might make the matchday squad.

Mduduzi Shabalala

The 20-year-old versatile midfielder has literally been Kaizer Chiefs main player despite his tender age.

The youngster has played 15 games for the Glamour Boys in all tournaments and managed to score five goals with two assists.

Mohau Nkota

The robust winger was introduced to top-flight football at the beginning of the season after his impressive showings at the beginning of the 2024/25 edition.

He has since played 16 games across all competitions with a return of four goals and two assists. This will be his first PSL derby.

Mfundo Vilakazi

The teenager is another talented attacker who has gone through the ranks at the Glamour Boys. The 19-year-old has played 16 games for Chiefs, with most appearances coming from the bench.

The two goals and an assist from Vilakazi show more will come from him; however, he might be introduced later into the match depending on the proceedings. 

Relebohile Mofokeng

Mofokeng made his debut for the Sea Robbers at the end of the 2022/23 season and has since grown to be an asset for the Jose Riveiro-led team.

In the ongoing campaign, the Bafana Bafana sensation has played 26 games across all competitions with eye-catching displays. He has eight goals and 11 assists, underlining why he will be a factor on Saturday.

Wandile Duba

The versatile Duba is another youngster who has been a hit at Naturena this season after winning Nabi's faith. In the 17 games played this far for Chiefs, Duba has scored four goals and provided three assists.

But the 20-year-old will not be part of the Amakhosi team for the Saturday game owing to his injury.
