Soweto Derby: ‘It’s going to be a hell of a vibe’ for Nabi & Riveiro – Komphela

Mamelodi Sundowns senior team coach Steve Komphela says it is time for coach Nasreddine Nabi and Jose Riveiro to enjoy the Soweto Derby.

Orlando Pirates will be hosting Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday at the FNB Stadium. The former are chasing the Premier Soccer League title while the latter are aware a win will, not only boost their confidence but will also revive their quest to challenge for the Nedbank Cup.

Steve Komphela, who coached the Glamour Boys between 2015 and 2018, knows how it feels to play in the Soweto Derby. He says it is a special occasion in Mzansi that should be enjoyed by all including the coaches.

Soweto Derby reflects the culture and traditions of South Africa

“Enjoy the moment, it’s going to be a hell of a vibe. Listen when Pirates and Chiefs play at FNB, why is it month-end? So that we can have money to go and watch it.

“All those dates are month-end, because it is an occasion, so that people can go out and watch them. Why are they dressing smartly? Because it reflects the culture and traditions of South Africa.

“Then players have to go to the park and play, and then we’ll review after – people must enjoy the moment.”

Orlando Pirates have won the last three Soweto Derbies across all competitions which makes the Saturday clash even more entertaining since Kaizer Chiefs will be aiming at stopping that unwanted run.

The game will be played from 15.30 hours at the FNB Stadium.
