Soweto Derby: Nabi delighted to have finally netted Lilepo – ‘He will help Chiefs a lot’

Kaizer Chiefs added three vital players – Glody Lilepo, Thabo Cele, and Tashreeq Morris, in the concluded winter transfer window.

It was good business for coach Nasreddine Nabi who was keen on having attacking players to help bolster the department. The Tunisian has specifically lauded the capture of Congolese winger Glody Lilepo.

The 27-year-old was signed from Valenciennes who play in the French third tier. He reveals he had even tried to sign the winger while in his former team in Morocco's Botola Pro League but he failed.

Lilepo has initially played for AS Vita Club and Al Hilal which makes Nabi believe the Congolese has what it takes to help the Glamour Boys deliver.

Lilepo is going to be a good signing for Chiefs – Nabi

“It's true that I've been following Glody Lilepo since the time he was at AS Vita Club before even going to Al Hilal, and at that time at Young Africans, we even tried to bring him in, but it didn't work out,” he stated.

“Last season, I tried to bring him in at AS FAR Rabat and it didn't work, but this time it worked out, we faced tough competition for him with Tunisian clubs, but we are so happy he joined us.

“We believe that with his experience and skills, he's someone that can help us a lot, especially in the attacking third, but we might as well give him a little bit of time to adapt to SA football and his teammates, but I think he's going to be a very good signing for us,” he added.

What about Thabo Cele?

Bafana Bafana international Cele came in as a free agent from Russian outfit Fakel Voronezh, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal. Nabi has explained why he went for the 28-year-old versatile midfielder.

“About Thabo Cele, he's someone we have been following and I can tell you that he's the kind of player that fits into our game model.

“He came to training and looked fit during sessions, and we are very happy about him,” Nabi concluded.

While Cele is expected to make his debut on Saturday when Chiefs play Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby. However, Lilepo is still waiting for his work permit.
