Spurs make decision on Chiefs-linked Velebayi – ‘It doesn’t mean you change your wife every year’

The Soweto giants have been hunting the South Africa midfielder but it seems they will not get him, at least not for now.

Kaizer Chiefs have no chance of signing Cape Town Spurs and Bafana Bafana international Asanele Velebayi, according to CEO Alexi Efstathiou.

The Glamour Boys have been desperately chasing the 21-year-old versatile attacker in the ongoing transfer window.

Spurs claimed Amakhosi did not come close to the valuation of the player which is the reason why his wish to make a move was not granted.

Spurs now claim Velebayi is not leaving

The player's parents asked for a meeting with the Urban Warriors hoping to help in convincing the management to let the South Africa midfielder leave, but it seemingly, nothing materialized.

Spurs CEO Efstathiou has now made a bold announcement that Amakhosi will not be able to sign Velebayi because he is now in the team's plan ahead of the second-tier game on Sunday again the University of Pretoria.

“The shop is closed now; we are focusing on our first game of the season against Tuks,” the administrator told SNL24.

“If you are not happy with your wife, that doesn't mean you change a wife every year. Many youngsters would love to have a professional contract and be in the player's shoes right now.”

Who have Kaizer Chiefs signed?

Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Amakhosi have signed Rushwin Dortley, Fiacre Ntwari, Bongani Sam and most recently, former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi is not yet done; Chiefs are close to signing Angola international defender Inacio Miguel to bolster the squad. They have also been linked with the services of the Democratic Republic of Congo striker Fiston Mayele.

The 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season will start on Saturday, September 14. Amakhosi have been handed a tricky away fixture against Marumo Gallants.
