Asanele Velebayi: Cape Town Spurs reiterate stance on Kaizer Chiefs target

The highly rated winger is wanted by Amakhosi but his club is staying firm

Kaizer Chiefs still have a chance of signing highly rated winger Asanele Velebayi from Cape Town Spurs if they meet the club’s valuation before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

Chiefs have not hidden their interest in the attacker and have been embroiled in a back and forth with the club over the transfer, Amakhosi even supposedly using the player’s parents to push for the move.

However, Spurs have remained adamant that while they have no problem with his departure, the player will only be allowed leave at the right price.

Do Kaizer Chiefs still have a chance on Velebayi?

That has seen Chiefs explore other targets such as Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis but that deal is also proving difficult and Spurs are still leaving the door open for the Soweto giants as long as their demands are met.

“Yes of course [the deal could happen] if there is any team that comes and puts the right offer, we will seriously look at it,” Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou told KickOff, hinting that Chiefs are not the only interested club.

“There is serious interest, I can’t specify [which team],” he added, when asked if Chiefs are still interested in the winger.

Spurs have maintained their stance over the transfer

Spurs are believed to be demanding a fee in the region of R8 million for the winger and have already rejected an initial offer from Chiefs which was below their valuation.

“Nothing has changed,” Efstathiou reiterated the club’s stance on the transfer fee.

“This is what happened with [Ashley] Cupidpo, that’s what happened with Rushwin [Dortley] and that is what happened with Chumani. So, I don’t see why it should be different with Asanele.”
