CAF Confederation Cup: Stellenbosch FC get tricky draw in group stages

Published on by

Stellenbosch FC has been drawn into Group B for the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup, where they will compete against CD Lunda-Sul from Angola, Stade Malien from Mali, and RS Berkane from Morocco.

This was revealed during Monday’s draw for the group stage of the competition.

Stellies will be looking to make a strong impression in their debut appearance in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

How Stellenbosch reached CAF CC group stages

In the club’s first-ever continental campaign, Stellenbosch FC advanced to the Group Stage of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday after claiming a 1-1 (3-1 aggregate) win over Congolese giants AS Vita.

Having recorded a 2-0 win at home in the first leg, Stellies were made to overcome challenging conditions in Kinshasa where the team was reduced to 10 men following Ismael Toure’s first-half dismissal.

The Maroons were undeterred by their numerical disadvantage though, and broke the deadlock in the second half through Lehlogonolo Mojela, who fired home a powerful half-volley to effectively put the tie to bed.

Vita did hit back with a late goal from the penalty spot, but it was too little too late as Stellies secured a historic result in what was the club’s first match outside of South Africa.

Who are the Stellenbosch CAF CC Group B opponents?

1. CD Lunda-Sul (Angola): Known for their strong defensive play, will be a challenging opponent for Stellenbosch FC.

2. Stade Malien (Mali): With a rich history in African football, Stade Malien brings experience and tactical prowess to the group.

3. RS Berkane (Morocco): As former champions of the CAF Confederation Cup, RS Berkane is expected to be one of the toughest competitors in the group.
