The Stellenbosch defender has shed light on the reports linking him to Amakhosi

Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien has expressed his delight at being linked with Kaizer Chiefs while remaining tight-lipped over his future.

The left full-back, who can also play as a wingback, has been high on the wish list of Chiefs with Amakhosi having submitted two offers which were turned down by the Stellies.

Basadien’s agent also confirmed the player had submitted a transfer request but his parent club are not keen to lose another key player, having seen captain Deano van Royen and striker Iqraam Rayners switch to Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively.

Will Kaizer Chiefs land Fawaaz Basadien?

The player has continued to impress for his club, earning him a place in the Bafana Bafana squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan.

“I am contracted to Stellenbosch, that’s where I can play. All I can do is put in good performances, week in and week out,” Basadien said on Monday.

“I am there to do a job, never mind what is going on around me in the media. Obviously, it is good to have a club like Chiefs interested in you but I am contracted to Stellenbosch and it is to put in good performances week in, week out.”

Stellenbosch have no desire to sell

Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie last month expressed the club’s desire to hold onto the player who has three goals and one assist from five games this season.

“Fawaaz is a consummate professional, yes there’s an offer from Kaizer Chiefs [but] we improved his contract recently,” said Benadie.

“He’s still contracted to Stellenbosch Football Club. And we want to keep him, he is a fantastic player, we don’t want to go backwards with our squad.

“We want to continue and do similar type of performances as we did last year. So, Fawaaz is very important to us, he knows that, he understands that.”
