The Stellies have revealed conditions that the PSL champions met before signing the striker
Stellenbosch FC have confirmed the departure of striker Iqraam Rayners to Mamelodi Sundowns, revealing that the Brazilians triggered a buy-out clause in his contract.
Rayners is the latest high-profile player to ditch the Stellies in this transfer window following the departure of Deano van Rooyen Orlando Pirates and is set to add firepower to Sundowns’ attack.
The true value of his buyout clause was not revealed but it is believed Sundowns had to part with a substantial sum for Stellenbosch to release their all-time top scorer.

The striker played a pivotal role for Stellenbosch
“We are proud of how we as a club helped reignite Iqraam’s career and for providing him the platform to become a full international with Bafana Bafana,” Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie said in a statement posted on the club’s website.
“Since re-joining Stellenbosch, Iqraam has developed into one of the country’s leading strikers and his goalscoring return played a massive role in our recent success.
“We have the utmost gratitude for his immense contributions and wish him all the best as he embarks on this next chapter of his career.”
How will Sundowns fit Rayners into their team?
Rayners scored a club record 68 goals in 135 appearances across two spells in the Cape Winelands, having previously represented the club between 2017 and 2020, helping the team win promotion to the South African top-flight, before returning in January 2023 after a spell at SuperSport United.
He is set to offer Sundowns options upfront, joining Brazilian forward Arthur de Oliveira Sales as the new strikers at the club, to compete with Peter Shalulile.
Rayners is the club’s fifth signing after the arrivals of Oliveira Sales, Kobamelo Kodisang, Kegan Johannes and Asekho Tiwani.
