Stellies finish Caf CC job in style! Find out who they play next

The Steve Barker-led team claimed a huge 5-0 win this weekend to advance to the next phase of the annual continental competition.

Stellenbosch have sealed their place in the second preliminary round of the Caf Confederation Cup after an 8-0 aggregate win over Nsingizini Hotspurs from Eswatini.

In the first leg, the Steve Barker-led team claimed a 3-0 win and were set to complete the job on Saturday afternoon at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Confidence was high for the Premier Soccer League outfit thanks to the initial win, and that explains why they started the game on a high as opposed to the opponents who had a huge mountain to climb.

Mojela and Phili opens their account

Nsingizini Hotspurs goalkeeper Sibusiso Dlamini pulled a double-save inside 10 minutes but the rebound fell kindly to Lehlogonolo Mojela who headed the ball home to stretch his team's already impressive lead.

Another new signing Langelihle Phili doubled the advantage in the 27th minute. He spotted the goalkeeper slightly off-position and unleashed a screamer with his left foot that flew into the back of the net

It could have been more in favour of the home team, but chances were not fully taken by the players.

Ruthless Stellies get three more

After the pause, Andre de Jong tapped into an empty net thanks to a defensive mix-up. It was the third time the attacker has scored from as many matches this season, showing he is ready to take over from Iqraam Rayners who joined Mamelodi Sundowns.

Stellies were now enjoying themselves knowing they have done almost enough to progress. Nsingizini Hotspurs looked frustrated in the latter stages of the game, and it was no surprise when debutant Omega Mdaka made it 4-0 with five minutes to go.

The fifth goal came in the 90th-minute courtesy of substitute Mervin Boji to ensure Stellies made it to the next phase in style.

Stellenbosch will now play Congolese outfit AS Vita Club, who received a bye from the previous hurdle, in the second preliminary round.
