Steve Barker’s men will be out to complete the job as they warm up for their midweek clash against Mamelodi Sundowns

Stellenbosch FC will be out to complete the job against Nsingizini Hotspurs of Eswatini in the second leg of their CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday.

The Stellies recorded a morale-boosting 3-0 win in the first leg of the preliminary round clash and will be out to avoid any upsets on home ground.

Stellenbosch will host the match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban where they will be playing with less pressure after doing most of their work in the first leg.

First leg advantage

Andre de Jong and Delvin Titus gave Steve Barker’s men a 2-0 first half lead in Eswatini before Kaizer Chiefs target Fawaaz Basasied put the gloss on the score line with a third goal via the penalty spot in the second half.

Another such display in Durban will put them in the second preliminary round where a meeting with DR Congo's AS VITA awaits.

Warmup for Sundowns clash?

The match will be a warm up somewhat for Stellenbosch who face Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final on Wednesday August 28 before hosting the Brazilians in the return leg on Sunday September 1.

Barker might make changes, given the tie is almost won, with an eye on Wednesday’s big clash as he bids to keep some of his big hitters fresh for the midweek clash.

What did they say?

Barker warned his charges against complacency after the big first leg win.

“One thing that we need to understand is that the tie is not over,” said Barker after the match.

“The game is not finished, it’s only half-time. We have to come out next week and show the same character and attitude towards the game.

“I can anticipate that our opponents will really come out for it because they have nothing to lose. They need to try to get themselves back into the tie, so we expect another tough game, as was the case today.
