MTN8: Stellenbosch silence TS Galaxy to join Orlando Pirates into semis

Stellies were good value for their money as they made it into the last four

Stellenbosch FC came from a goal down to make it into the MTN8 semi-final following a 3-1 victory over TS Galaxy at the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday.

Steve Barker opted against starting his new recruits as Bradley Mojel, Sanele Barns and Ibraheem Jabaar watched proceedings from the bench while his opposite number Sead Ramovic could not field the fresh faces due to the club's ongoing transfer ban.

Stellenbosch dominated early proceedings with Iqraam Rayners and Jayden Adams testing Wensten Van Der Linde in the TS Galaxy goal. Andre De Jong would come close to breaking the deadlock after 14 minutes but Van Der Linder was up to the task.

However, four minutes later, the home team found themselves trailing when Mike Sebelebele struck for TS Galaxy against the run of play.

Stellenbosch did not take long to turn around the scores

The lead did not last long though as Adams levelled the scores in the 25th minute after connecting well with De Jong’s ball to chip it over Van Der Linde.

Both teams kept looking for the lead until the 40th minute when Van Der Linde punched away Devin Tutus’ attempt but he was not lucky from the resultant corner, as De Jong connected well with Fawaaz Basadien’s cross.

After the break, Stellenbosch went in for the kill and took 12 minutes to find the third goal. A neat interplay resulted in Basadien firing in the third goal which killed off any hopes of a TS Galaxy comeback.

Barker then handed opportunities to his new players with Barns and Mojela getting some minutes in their legs as the Stellies tightened it at the back to seal their place in the last four.
