Mamelodi Sundowns’ 4-1 demolition of Orlando Pirates saw them set another record in the PSL as they became the team with the highest goals scored at the halfway point of the campaign.
Sundowns put Pirates to the sword with Lucas Ribeiro’s brace either side of Grant Kekana and Teboho Mokoena’s strikes completing the rout even though Deon Hotto scored the consolation for Jose Riveiro’s team.
That saw Sundowns open a nine-point lead at the top of the table, as they have 42 points from 15 games, while Pirates have 33 from 14 matches.

With 35 goals scored and six conceded, Sundowns have a goal difference of +29, way better than Pirates’ +16, and according to OptaJabu, they are now the team with the highest goals scored after 15 games in the PSL.
What was the PSL record before?
The record was initially held by Kaizer Chiefs, who had managed 31 from 15 matches in the 2004-05 season, when they went on to beat Pirates by two points to win the PSL title, but Sundowns have now gone four better.
Sundowns have found their mojo at just the right time with 11 of the 35 goals scored in one week, beating Golden Arrows 4-0, SuperSport United 3-0 before hammering Pirates.
The Brazilians have lost just one game this season, a shock 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City last October, but have never looked back since.
Sundowns are also yet to draw a game, winning 14 of their 15 games, a formidable record that Pirates, who have suffered three defeats, will have to work hard to keep up with if they want to wrestle the PSL title from Miguel Cardoso’s team.
