Sundowns legends give Shalulile his flowers – ‘The attitude was proper’

Mamelodi Sundowns legends Teko Modise and Hlompho Kekana have lauded Namibia international Peter Shalulile for his professionalism despite going through a tough time at the club.

The forward has struggled for game time since late last season owing to his poor form in front of the goal. The signings of Arthur Sales and Iqraam Rayners further decreased Shalulile's chances to start matches at the club.

However, the 31-year-old's attitude has been top-notch and he always gives his best when he is called upon to do his job on the pitch. His latest duty was last weekend in the Caf Champions League game against AS Maniema Union.

He was introduced when the team was trailing 1-0 but scored and forced an own goal to help the defending Premier Soccer League champions win 2-1.

“Peter is a true sportsman, right, in the sense that he has the right attitude for the game and that the game rewards such people,” Modise told Pitchside Podcast.

“That’s all I’m saying; have the right attitude the game will reward you. And, and we are not gonna talk about performances against Maniema, nothing. The attitude was proper, my guy. We won the game based on his attitude. Yes, Peter had the right attitude, and we say, and I still say that I like players when they’re not playing and that they deserve that they want to play and they sulk. It’s fine as long as they don’t disturb the changing room.”

His sentiments were echoed by Kekana, “It’s such a humble human being. He doesn’t fight or do anything, you know, malicious to kick people. He's just an athletic player who wants to win all the time. And you will hate to play against him. Do you know why? He will put you in a position that you are not comfortable in.”

It will be interesting to see whether Shalulile will start against AS FAR Rabat on Sunday in their final Caf Champions League Group B game.
