Mamelodi Sundowns are set to strengthen their defensive unit by signing another experienced defender from Argentina.
The defending Premier Soccer League champions are aiming to deliver the Caf Champions League and perform well in the expanded 2025 Fifa Club World Cup to be held in the United States.
To achieve that, coach Miguel Cardoso will need experienced players who have played at the highest level. Masandawana are just a point away from the quarter-final in the Caf Champions League.
New defender comes in from Argentina
The Masandawana technical team has settled on central left-footed defender Lucas Suarez who currently plays for CA Talleres. The 29-year-old was part of the U20 team that represented Argentina in the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup held in New Zealand.
He played against Panama and Ghana but his team failed to get past the Group Stage. He has been a rock for CA Talleres and is seen as a player who will help tighten Sundowns' defense.
It is interesting to see how the club will deal with the Premier Soccer League's foreign quarter since they have already exhausted it.
Esquivel fails to impress

As Suarez joins Masandawana for an initial season-long deal, Matias Esquivel's stay at Talleres has been cut short.
The 25-year-old was deemed surplus to requirement at Downs and was loaned out for a season to work on his confidence. However, things have not gone according to plan which has led to the abrupt termination of the deal.
Nevertheless, his career at the Premier Soccer League club is as good as over after his initial inconsistencies.
