‘Bring back Pitso’ – Furious Sundowns fans want Mngqithi gone after MTN8 setback

Masandwana supporters are calling for changes in the dugout after just three games

Mamelodi Sundowns are already calling for the dismissal of coach Manqoba Mngqithi after just three games of the season.

Sundowns suffered elimination from the MTN8 following a 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC on Sunday and 2-0 on aggregate which leaves them out of the running for one of the three trophies they were looking to win this season.

Worryingly for Sundowns fans is the manner in which their team played in both the quarter-final and semi-final. The Brazilians needed an own goal to defeat Polokwane City in the quarter-final before the 2-0 aggregate loss to Stellenbosch and it means they have not scored in 270 minutes of competitive football.

The supporters therefore feel it was a bad idea to part ways with former coach Rulani Mokwena and already want Mngqithi gone with veteran Pitso Mosimane called back.

Should Pitso Mosimane return to Sundowns?

“Management handled the coach issue very badly. After releasing Rulani, we didn't know whether Manqoba was the coach or not. Now they decided to take a chance with him, knowing very well that he failed before. Why don’t you swallow your pride and hire Pitso?” posed @SEMolekwa.

“Honestly, you guys must bring back coach Pitso. This is an embarrassment,” posted @EdgarLegoale.

“It took Pitso eight years to build this brand. It took Manqoba and Rhulani three years to destroy it. To be honest, I didn’t expect anything different from what we saw during the week. Bring back Pitso,” @mabaso_katleho also called for Mosimane’s return.

“Our coach didn't plan well for all three games played. We didn't deserve to go to final with that performance,” commented @SollyMongs.

“We need a statement on Monday. Mgqithi must leave our FC he’s destroying,” said @sibusisond.

Long season ahead for Masandawana supporters

With their poor display in their first three games, some Sundowns fans are already preparing themselves for a tough season even though their team has won the last eight PSL titles.

“As Y'ello Nation I think we should brace ourselves for the longest season ever in history of Sundowns. Rhulani warned them but they didn't listen. Mamelodi Sundowns will not see the league this season,” said @ishtCrayCray.

“This is a disgrace to our legacy as a team. Please something must be done,” @mehlulisizwe observed.

“So, are we already declaring this season a sinking ship? The last captain was tossed overboard for steering us off course in the MTN8, Black Label and Nedbank Cup. Or have I misunderstood the script?” posed @MosweuRSA.

“It is no longer a joke now. We are worried about Sundowns,” commented @t_junction1.

“As much as we are divided concerning the issue of getting rid of Rhulani, the reality is that we have declined and probably made a mistake by letting him go. Seems like it's gonna be a long season,” said @gjele1987.

Sundowns will face Mbabane Swallows from eSwatini in the CAF Champions League next before they begin their PSL campaign against SuperSport United on September 17.
