Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi believes his team will finish higher up the table despite their inconsistencies that see them stay eighth on the log after 19 PSL matches.
Chiefs suffered a second straight loss when they lost 1-0 away to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday although it was a much-improved performance from their 4-0 defeat to SuperSport United last time out.
Lucas Ribeiro’s 41st minute strike sealed a third straight win for Sundowns over Chiefs this season but Nabi feels his team were very much in the game and their performance should have earned them at least a draw.
“It is a game that leaves us with some regrets because we feel we have done enough to create some problems for the opponent,” Nabi told SABC.
Chiefs coach feels draw would have been fair
“We had opportunities and more control of the game in the second half but it is football and at the end, we had to score and we feel we deserve even a draw given the performance we had but this is football and we know that we lost the points today but we have to go back, push our players and encourage them for the next game.”
The Kaizer Chiefs coach feels his team is getting stronger as the games go by and does not believe their current position reflect their overall performances.
That is giving him hope of a much better placing on the log at the end of the season as he has seen enough to convince him that positive results are on the horizon.
“You are not happy when you lose a game but what we have to take from this is the performance of the team, the tactical understanding and improvement of the players during the season,” he added.
What is giving Nabi hope for the season?

“We know that where we are on the table does not reflect our performances but it is a temporary thing and we know we will finish the season higher up the table.
“That is why we are working very hard and we know the team is progressing and is going through good and bad moments but we know the process of building and we need to make sure results are there to take us higher in the standings.”
Chiefs have 25 points from their 19 matches, having won seven, drawn four and lost eight, while they have scored 21 goals and let in 24.
Next up for Nabi and his men is a home clash against second from bottom Magesi FC on Tuesday March 4.
