Thabo Cele’s debut sparks John Moeti comparisons

Kaizer Chiefs' newly signed midfielder, Thabo Cele, has been likened to Orlando Pirates legend after making his debut last weekend.

Cele, who joined Amakhosi last week, made his first appearance for the Phefeni Glamour Boys in their 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby on Saturday.

South African football legend Professor Ngubane, who hails from the same township as Cele, KwaMashu, believes the midfielder possesses a playing style reminiscent of John Moeti.

‘HE PLAYS EXACTLY LIKE HIM’

“I know Cele very well, he is from KwaMashu,” Ngubane told KickOff.

“He is going to do well for Chiefs. He plays exactly like John Moeti. He isn't flashy, but he gets the job done very well. He prefers to keep it simple and is very organized.

“From a young age, he has always played like this. He doesn't try unnecessary moves; he plays it straightforward.”

Ngubane believes that Sibongiseni Mthethwa will benefit from having Cele as a midfield partner.

“Mthethwa just needs to stop shooting into the stands. What are these boys doing at training? He isn't really a scoring type, so he must practice hitting the target first.”
