Former Amakhosi star has broken his silence over the R1 million monthly pay and his future
Keegan Dolly has refuted claims that he earned R1 million per month at Kaizer Chiefs while explaining why he is still yet to find a club since leaving Amakhosi in June.
The attacker was reported to have been the highest earning player in the PSL during his three-year stay at Chiefs but there was a feeling that the Soweto giants did not get value for their money, as he spent most of the time injured, with last season being the worst when he made just seven appearances.
Chiefs cut ties with him, opting against exercising the one-year option to renew his deal, and the former Montpellier player now says the figure was blown out of proportion.
“Obviously, the supporters felt like the club is paying you so much and you are not playing but I tried so much not to look at social media and let it affect me,” Dolly told Soccer Laduma.
What did Dolly earn at Kaizer Chiefs?
“I knew that was not the right figure but I could not control what people thought of me and how I was handling myself or not. I always thought like when I did go on the field for Kaizer Chiefs, I gave my best.”
Dolly feels his stint at Chiefs would have been a success had injuries not hampered him but has no hard feelings that the club did not extend his stay.
“My first season at Chiefs I was the top scorer and that was when people said I was fat,” he went on.
“I thought it was the start of something new coming from France, where I did not play more, but unfortunately, I started picking up injuries. It was not injuries like I pulled muscle strains or groin.

Injuries hampered Dolly’s stay at Naturena
“I fractured my toe, was out for months so unfortunately, I couldn’t help the club in terms of the investment they put in me but at the end of the day, I couldn’t control the injuries I got.
“It was on the field not like I was at home doing something and I got hurt. It was an option to renew or not. They did nothing wrong to me, they just went their way and I understood and at the end of the day, it is business and I wish they do well under the new technical bench.”
Having left Chiefs, Dolly was rumoured to have agreed terms with SuperSport United after passing and he has explained what went on.
What happened with the SuperSport deal?

“It is not a secret that I did a medical with SuperSport and that came out clean so that was a good sign for me and my team and agency to be able to show to other teams that I am clean and healthy,” said Dolly.
“I did a medical but at the end of the day it comes down to the club and the coach who they want, who they are comfortable with working with and they paused but no hard feelings from our side, it is part of football.
“There are a lot of talks with teams and just figuring out how both parties can make ourselves happy. For now, it is to try and find a suitable place, I have two beautiful daughters that are soon to start school so I have to think about both of those factors, where they can also be comfortable.”
