Former Bafana Bafana and SuperSport United forward Thabo Mnyamane has retired from football, calling time on a 10-year career.

The 32-year-old has not played competitive football since 2022 when he suffered an injury while playing for Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, before they changed names to Marumo Gallants, in the PSL.

That was after spending five years between 2015 and 2020 at SuperSport, having started his career in 2013 at the University of Pretoria.

“After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my retirement from football,” Mnyamane said in his farewell message posted on Instagram.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have played this beautiful game. To have lived my childhood dream of becoming a professional footballer. I extend my sincere thanks to all the teams I have played for, from amateur levels to professional stages, and to the coaches who nurtured my talent throughout my career.

“I will always cherish the moments shared with my teammates, the trophies we won, and the long journeys across Africa. A special thank you to the fans for your unwavering support, both on and off the field. Your love has meant the world to me, and I am forever thankful.”

Mnyamane made three appearances for Bafana Bafana, scoring one goal. He scored on his debut against Eswatini which earned him two further call-ups for friendly matches against Angola and Guinea-Bissau, playing against the latter.

The former striker has recently been serving as a performance analyst for the AmaTuks Ladies’ team.
