The player, once dubbed ‘bad boy of South African football,’ is not happy with his past decisions
Former Orlando Pirates defender Edwin Gyimah has expressed his regret at some of the decisions he made in the past.
Gyimah is one of the most outspoken players but that personality has landed him in trouble at his former clubs, with the recent one being Sekhukhune United.
The left-footed central defender fell out with ex-Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral before leaving the club in 2017 for Swedish side Helsingborgs IF.
Most recently, he drew the wrath of Babina Noko last season when he vented his frustration over his lack of gametime during the unveiling of a new player, which eventually led to his departure.
Gyimah has admitted he could perhaps have done better, even if he habours no grudges with his past clubs.
‘There are a lot of deficiencies in the players’
“Former players and current players I feel somehow we failed because we need to make the owners be proud of us,” Gyimah, once referred to as the ‘Bad boy of South African football,’ told Marawa Sports Worldwide.
“There are a lot of deficiencies in the players that when the owners see, they will never take us seriously and they can easily make decisions because they are in that space.
“We are failing the younger players, the kind of picture we portray to them, lifestyle, decisions and even off the field. Off the field is hurting a lot of people. I should have minded my business,” he added regrettably.
Gyimah made just six appearances for Sekhukhune last season before his contract was terminated, having been frozen out of the squad, following his bust up.
He has not played since January and while he is hopeful of a change in fortunes, he feels the club should have at least informed him why his deal was cut short.
‘They should have explained the situation to me’
“Sekhukhune is an ambitious club, they try many things each season. I am really proud of myself
For the achievement the club has attained now,” said Gyimah.
“I had no hard feelings when they terminated me. They would have spoken to me and told me this season, this is the plan.
“We want to go in a certain direction, I still had that mentality of trying to work hard and find something, I was thinking of continuing but I think the club had a different project.
I feel they should have explained the situation to me but that never happened.”
Gyimah has recently been invited to train with Marumo Gallants to stay fit and is not ruling out a deal.
