Amakhosi shelled out a substantial sum for Nasreddine Nabi’s first signing
Kaizer Chiefs reportedly paid over R5 million to land goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy.
The Rwandan international became the first signing for the Nasreddine Nabi era after agreeing to ditch PSL rivals Galaxy for the Soweto giants and he is seen as the long-term replacement for club legend Itumeleng Khune.
While Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi claimed his club ‘assisted’ Amakhosi because they want to see a ‘strong Kaizer Chiefs’ they are set to reap big from the sale of the 24-year-old.
Chiefs new goalkeeper coach ‘was monitoring Ntwari’ for one year
According to Rwandan publication The New Times, the Glamour Boys paid $300,000 (R5.4 million) for the goalkeeper, a big outlay on a talent that is highly rated in South African football.
Ntwari kept nine clean sheets in his 24 games at Galaxy last season, having joined in 2023 from Rwandan side APR.
The Rwandan outlet also claimed new Chiefs goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi has been monitoring Ntwari for the last one year and had enough information about him even before he agreed to join Nabi’s backroom staff last month.
The new signing will likely be the club’s no.1 given the huge outlay
It will be interesting to see how Nabi juggles the riches at his disposal in the goalkeeping department.
Besides Ntwari, Chiefs also have Bruce Bvuma, who was the most preferred last season, as well Brandon Petersen and Karabo Molefe.
However, after shelling out that much and handing him a three-year contract, Ntwari will likely be the club’s no.1 given he has the blessings of the new technical bench.
