Amakhosi have no equals in South Africa when it comes to social media following
Kaizer Chiefs are the third most followed African club on social media following statistics released by Digital Sport Africa Study.
The Glamour Boys have a following of over nine million across all their digital platforms and are only dwarfed by Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca and Tanzania’s Simba SC.
As per the statistics, Chiefs have a following of 9,641,942 on social media with Raja at 11,259,943 while Simba have 10,676,136 across their digital platforms being Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Linked-In, Threads and YouTube.
It makes Chiefs the most followed club in South Africa, beating bitter rivals Orlando Pirates and perennial champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs draw big numbers from Facebook & X
Chiefs’ biggest following comes from Facebook and X where the club has a following of 4.6 million and 3 million respectively while Instagram (989K) and TikTok (150.2k) also pull in substantial numbers.
Amakhosi beat Pirates in this respect as the Sea Robbers have a following of 3.8 million on Facebook, 2 million on X, 753k on Instagram while TikTok has 106k.
It is only on YouTube where Pirates beat Chiefs with a subscriber base of 130k compared to 73.7k for the Glamour Boys.
While Pirates and Sundowns will argue that they are the better teams on the pitch, it seems their success has yet to rub off on the rest of Africa, as Amakhosi have a high affinity with fans.
