The semi-final match will now take place on Wednesday at the DHL Stadium

Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City’s MTN8 semi-final first leg has been postponed to Wednesday due to bad weather in the Western Cape.

Cape Town were set to host Pirates at 7pm at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday but the heavy rains and windy conditions have made it impossible for the match to take place.

The match has now been moved to Wednesday August 28 at the same venue from 6pm, as per communication from the PSL.

“The decision to postpone the match was made following the advice from the City of Cape Town authorities and stadium management, who reported gale-force winds averaging speeds of 67 km/h,” a statement from the PSL read.

Will the postponement affect Orlando Pirates?

“The adverse weather has led to collapsed buildings, blocked roads due to fallen trees, and impacted stadium facilities. Tickets purchased for today's match will remain valid for the rescheduled fixture.”

The SA Weather Service has focused that the rainfall and wind gusts being experienced across the Western Cape will start easing off in the early hours of Wednesday, hence the decision to switch the match by 24 hours.

Pirates are already in Cape Town for the clash and their fears of having fixture pile up were allayed when the game was moved to Wednesday.

Cape Town city keen to win a trophy this season

The Buccaneers are looking for a first leg advantage to take to the Orlando Stadium on Saturday as they look to defend their title.

However, Eric Tinkler’s side have also expressed a desire to win a trophy this season, after signing 11 players, and the MTN8 is seen as one of those within their reach.

Cape Town qualified for the semi-final following a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United while Pirates beat SuperSport United 3-1 in the quarter-final.
