The Soweto giants could be back in for the defender who wants to leave his current club
Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit of Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien has received a massive boost after his agent confirmed the player’s desire to join Amakhosi.
Basadien is one of the players who are on the Chiefs wish list and the Soweto giants have already had bids rejected, with some outlets reporting that they have turned their attention to other options instead.
Now, Chiefs could be back in after his agent Basia Michaels revealed that the player has already informed the club of his desire to leave and join the Glamour Boys.
“But life isn’t fair unfortunately and also timing is everything. However, this is something that we are still actively pursuing although time might not be on our side, but we are working at it,” Michaels told SABC.

Will the Stellies hold onto the highly-rated defender?
“Fawaaz has let the coach [Steve Barker] and the Stellies management know that this is an opportunity he wants to pursue.
“I can’t speak about the happiness of staying – we have to cross that bridge, if we unfortunately get there, but we can all admit that Fawaaz has been a consummate professional scoring two goals in two games.”
The revelation puts pressure on Stellenbosch somewhat as they might be forced to lose another of their top players, having already seen captain Deano van Rooyen join Orlando Pirates, while Mamelodi Sundowns triggered the buyout clause of striker Iqraam Rayners.

Stellenbosch need their top players for a busy schedule
Basadien is one of the highly rated left-backs in the PSL and has been vital for the Stellies, playing a key part on their third-place finish in the league last season, while he was a standout player as they beat TS Galaxy 3-1 in the MTN8 quarter-final, scoring and assisting, before netting a penalty in the CAF Confederation Cup last week.
Stellenbosch have a busy schedule coming up with the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round second leg tie against Nsingizini Hotspurs of eSwatini this weekend before they visit Mamelodi Sundowns for the MTN8 semi-final first round on Wednesday.
Coach Steve Barker will need all his players focused on the matches ahead of next month’s PSL start but it appears that he will have to do with the distractions of his players angling for transfers elsewhere until the window closes on September 20.
