The two-time PSL winning coach has given his views on signing some of his ex-players

Rhulani Mokwena does not intend to lure Mamelodi Sundowns to Morocco following his appointment as coach of Wydad Athletics Club.

Mokwena was unveiled on Thursday, close to two weeks after his shock exit from PSL champions Sundowns, and while he intends to restore the club back to the top, he will not be doing it with the help of some of his former players.

“We are not going to poach any Sundowns players,” Mokwena said when he was unveiled to the media by Wydad president Hicham Ait Menna.

‘I have to make sure that we respect Mamelodi Sundowns’

“We will respect Sundowns but if anyone is available at any club, things will be done right. But for sure, we have to respect the club and I have to make sure that we respect Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club and their players and their assets.”

The 37-year-old appear keen not to strain his relationship with his former employers after parting ways amicably although his departure is believed to have been forced following a falling out with Sporting Director Flemming Berg.

Mokwena has signed a three-year contract with the Moroccan giants and promised to win as many matches as he can but while playing an attractive brand of football.

‘I want to win every game, try to win every trophy’

He revealed how a request from Ait Menna to implement just 25 per cent of his style of play convinced him that it was the right project to take over.

“I want to win every game, try to win every trophy. In sport it is impossible to win every game and trophy but we will try,” he added.

Mokwena now has the job of wresting the title from local rivals Raja Casablanca while FAR Rabat, who lost it by just a point last season, will also be among the top challengers.
