The 21-year-old will re-sign for his ex-club after limited game time with the Bucs

Orlando Pirates have reportedly agreed to let midfielder Azola Matrose return to Chippa United, three years after signing him from the Chilli Boys.

Matrose joined Pirates in the 2021-22 season from Chippa United but loaned him back to the club to finalise his studies.

He returned to the Soweto giants in 2022-23 but had an injury which hindered him from showing his true potential.

Will Matrose rediscover his form at Chippa?

Matrose returned just in time for the second round of the DStv Diski Challenge where he played a prominent role but with a bloated squad, Pirates feel they cannot guarantee him regular game time, hence the decision to allow him to leave.

According to SABC, Chippa United are ready to take him back and have prepared a three-year contract, with the option for another two, as they look to tie him on the long-term.

The 21-year-old will join the Chilli Boys in their pre-season in Johannesburg next week as they finetune ahead of the 2024-25 PSL campaign.

Pirates are keen to trim their bloated squad

Pirates are seeking to trim their big squad and have already parted ways with Kermit Erasmus, Thabang Monare, Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Fortune Makaringe, Souaibou Marou, Vincent Pule and Bongani Sam (Kaizer Chiefs).

Of the eight, only Sam was sold, having joined Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs, while the other seven were released at the end of last season.

The Buccaneers have already signed Angolan forward Gilberto from Petro de Luanda, Thuso Moleleki from Orbit College, Selaelo Rasebotja (SuperSport United) with another attacker Deano van Rooyen joining this week from Stellenbosch FC.
