The experienced scout has revealed what he is bringing to Naturena
Kaizer Chiefs’ new Head of Scouting and Recruitment Thembela ‘Tera’ Maliwa has explained what Amakhosi supporters should expect from him.
Cape Town-born Maliwa was unveiled by the Glamour Boys on Thursday and is set to lead their scouting and recruitment department in a bid to identify talents that will help coach Nasreddine Nabi build a formidable squad.
Chiefs lured the highly-rated scout from PSL rivals Mamelodi Sundowns where he served for seven years, having spent 11 years of his formative career at Ajax Cape Town, before a two-year stint in the Netherlands.
What should Chiefs fans expect from Maliwa?
Amakhosi supporters have every reason to be happy as Maliwa, who describes himself as a technical scout, is adept at finding the very best football talents.
“I started scouting 18 years ago and for me, it is about identifying talent. Looking for new players and rough diamonds, getting the player that no one knows,” Maliwa told Radio 2000 this week.
“If you are in that department, you must find ways of getting players. It is not about going to the stadium and getting a player, it is not about someone recommending, you must also find ways.”

The scout identified some of Mzansi’s big prospects
Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr said the club wants Maliwa to find players with the right profile to help in their quest for success and he seems to tick those boxes given the kind of talents he has unearthed so far.
“I created a programme called First Dutch [at Ajax Cape Town] whereby we were focusing on 11-year-olds. We couldn’t find the younger ones to join the U12s,” he added.
“That is how we found players like Luke Le Roux [Stellenbosch], Tashreeq Matthews [Mamelodi Sundowns], he was 11 years old when we found him, Jayden Adams [Stellenbosch] was 10 years old when I found him, Kegan Johannes [Mamelodi Sundowns], they were part of my programme and seeing them now playing professionally makes me proud.”
