Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye would like coach Nasreddine Nabi to maintain the midfield three of George Matlou, Samkelo Zwane and Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa after impressing last weekend.
The three linked up in the middle of the pack as Chiefs secured a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United on Sunday with Mfundo Vilakazi scoring the winner very late but they had created a number of chances and shielded the defence well.
Khanye, who has been critical of Chiefs and Nabi’s tactics this season, sang a different tune this time, praising the midfielders for doing a splendid job.
Khanye praises Chiefs trio

“I think after a while, Kaizer Chiefs had a combination in the centre, well done to Matlou, Samkelo Zwane and also Mthethwa,” Khanye told iDiski TV.
“Like I usually say, you will never win a game without midfielders holding the ball, midfielders that are comfortable and can get to the front three. Well done to Kaizer Chiefs with the three midfielders.
“Kaizer Chiefs in the first half they looked pretty. It was the first time I saw them combine with those short passes. If they had to play long, yes they did.”
Why did the midfielders impress?

Khanye, however, did not miss an opportunity to aim a dig at Nabi, claiming the three midfielders played well because the Chiefs coach was absent as he was serving a touchline ban.
“I think maybe the coach not being on the bench helped some players, they had less pressure because there were variations in their game in the middle. There was a balance. Well done to them for winning.”
Chiefs are fifth on the PSL table with 21 points from 14 games and will take on lower league side Free Agents in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday before turning their attention to the Soweto derby the following weekend.
