Several top South African coaches are currently unemployed and awaiting opportunities ahead of the next season.
Afrik-Foot has compiled a top 10 ranking of these coaches based on their historical success.
1 – Pitso Mosimane
Jingles recently became unemployed after leaving Saudi Arabian club Abha Club following the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.
Mosimane was linked to the Kaizer Chiefs job before they appointed Nasreddine Nabi.
The former Al Ahly coach possesses extensive experience and a successful track record, including three CAF Champions League titles and numerous other trophies.
2 – Benni McCarthy
McCarthy was recently released by Manchester United upon the expiration of his contract. He had served as a striker’s coach since 2022.
The club replaced him with their legendary former player, Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
He has been linked to a move to Major League Soccer in the United States, with an unnamed club reportedly interested in his services.
His future remains uncertain following his departure from the English Premier League giants.
3 – Bradley Carnell
Former Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Carnell was recently dismissed from his position as head coach of St. Louis City due to the club's inability to replicate their remarkable inaugural season success in 2024.
Carnell was appointed head coach of St. Louis a year prior to their historic 2023 MLS season, where they shattered several expansion club records and secured the top seed in the Western Conference.
4 – Roger De Sa
The former Orlando Pirates coach has been unemployed since leaving his position in Qatar in January. He previously served as assistant coach to Carlos Queiroz.
Prior to their Qatar jobs, the duo managed the Iran and Egypt national teams.
De Sa’s last club-level experience was with the now-defunct All-Stars in 2021.
5 – Molefi Ntseki
Ntseki was dismissed by Kaizer Chiefs in October of the previous season following a series of disappointing results. This concluded his three-month tenure with the Soweto giants.
Ntseki has never coached any senior team at club level except Kaizer Chiefs. Prior to that, he managed Bafana Bafana from 2019 to 2021.

6 – Cavin Johnson
Last season, Johnson served as interim coach for Kaizer Chiefs following Ntseki's dismissal. The team's performance under his leadership was underwhelming.
Initially appointed as the club's Head of Academy, Johnson has since parted ways with Kaizer Chiefs.
7 – Shaun Bartlett
He has been without a team for almost over six months after being sacked by Cape Town Spurs in the midseason.
Bartlett promoted the Urban Warriors to the top-flight via the PSL promotional/relegation playoffs in the 2022/23 season. At the end of the last season, they went back to the second-tier after suffering relegation.
8 – Brandon Truter
Truter was dismissed by Sekhukhune United after poor results towards the end of last year. His sacking came a day after the club’s exit from the Carling Knockout Cup.
He has previously managed AmaZulu FC, Richards Bay, Moroka Swallows and etc.
9 – Owen Da Gama
‘ODG’, as he’s well-known, is without a club since 2022 when he left Sekhukhune United where he served as an assistant coach.
Da Gama is one of the most experienced coaches available in the market having spearheaded Orlando Pirates, Platinum Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic, Highlands Park, TS Galaxy, Dynamos, Free State Stars, junior national teams and Bafana Bafana (as an assistant coach).
10 – Danie Klate
He may be a new kid on the block, the football that Chippa United displayed when he was in charge showed a lot must be expected from him.
Klate’s last job was at La Masia who got relegated at the end of the last season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
