Transfer window shock: Cele released! Chiefs to pounce?

Kaizer Chiefs’ target Thabo Cele has been released by his Russian club, FC Fakel Voronezh due to family responsibility reasons.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the club announced that midfielder Siphesihle Cele has been released from his contract to return to South Africa to address a family matter.

Cele had been playing in Russia for the duration of the season.

The club's statement further stipulated that, according to the agreement with Voronezh, Cele would only be permitted to sign for a South African club during the remainder of his contract with the Russian side.

Prior to his move to Russia, Cele had been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with Kaizer Chiefs repeatedly linked with a move for the talented midfielder.

“According to the agreement between Cele and the club, the footballer will only be able to play for teams from South Africa until the end of the current contract.

“We wish the player good luck in his future career, and health to Sele’s family. All the best to you, Thabo!”
