The TS Galaxy coach was left furious by the poor state of the playing surface in the Cape Winelands
TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic has slammed the PSL for allowing the MTN8 quarter-final between his team and Stellenbosch FC to be played at the Danie Craven Stadium.
Ramovic’s team lost 3-1 on a soaked pitch in the Cape Winelands on Sunday and the Serbian tactician did not take it kindly, feeling his side were hard done by the poor condition of the playing surface.
“We came to a game where probably a cow can break its legs and I ask myself, how can the PSL allow a game to be played on a field like this,” a furious Ramovic told SuperSport TV after the match.
“Now they have increased the MTN8 prize money but they can increase up to R100m but they have to start by fixing fields and not to allow my players, a professional team, to play on a field like this. It is a disgrace and embarrassing but PSL decides how we should play.
Ramovic does not feel transfer ban impacted performance
“Then you ask yourself why supporters don’t come to watch games. What should they see? This kind of game where you cannot make an easy pass? But we tried and also tried long balls to play in the space because you cannot play.
“It is not that we lost, I would say the same even if we won. It is about the principles; they want a professional league where everything is top but this is embarrassing.”
Ramovic’s team broke the deadlock through Mike Sebelebele but Stellenbosch responded through Jayden Adams and Andre De Jong for a 2-1 lead at halftime before Fawaaz Basadien added the third 12 minutes after the break.
The tactician was not able to field his new recruits, whose registration is still being held up by the club’s transfer ban, but he does not feel that played a part in the defeat.
TS Galaxy had defender Macbeth Mahlangu sent off
“No [not having his new players did not impact], we tried our best, I can only give a huge credit to my team, fantastic effort and attitude,” he added.
“Yes, we did not win but this will not change the fact that I am proud about how my guys played on this embarrassing pitch.”
Galaxy suffered another setback in the match when defender Macbeth Mahlangu was sent off for a second bookable offence which will lock him out of their first two PSL matches but that is not giving his coach sleepless nights.
“We will be ready for the first game. Our supporters do not have to worry. We will be ready for the first game if we do not play in a swimming pool,” said Ramovic.
