Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has shared his views on Cape Town Spurs youngster Asanele Velebayi, who is reportedly a top target for the club.
The 21-year-old winger produced impressive displays in Cape Town Spurs’ shirt last season in what was his first campaign in the top-flight.
His teammate Rushwin Dortley has already signed for Amakhosi and will be joining the team as they have returned from the pre-season in Turkey.
Khumalo believes Velebayi would be a good signing for the Glamour Boys considering that the new technical team led by Nasreddine Nabi wants to work with the young players.
DOCTOR KHUMALO EXPRESSES HIS OPINION ON KAIZER CHIEFS’ PURSUIT OF VELEBAYI
“Yes (he’d be a good signing), I mean, I have watched him play in the COSAFA Cup and also some games for Cape Town Spurs. I think based on the information (I have) he is 21 years old, if I am not mistaken.
“The information I have is that the new technical team really wants to work with youth. Probably, that's the reason why they opted for him.
“Also, you have seen the names of the players that they have asked to loan.
“It's not my duty to mention them here, but six of the players, the coach has asked for them to be loaned out. Two of them are nursing injuries at the moment, they didn't go to Turkey.”
Meanwhile, CT Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou recently confirmed to KickOff that Velebayi is sought after by numerous clubs both domestically and internationally.
Consequently, Chiefs would need to pay a substantial fee to secure his signature.
VELEBAYI SOUGHT AFTER BY NUMEROUS CLUBS
“There are a few teams that want him now, the thing is there is interest from overseas as well for most of my players,” said Efstathiou.
“I won't say which clubs are interested, but there are three South African clubs that have approached us for him.
“I don't wanna put time frame on when a move might happen, but at the moment he is training with the team as we prepare for next season.
“Yes he might leave us, but at the moment we continuing planning with the squad we have.”
