The Brazilians are set for a new leadership in the technical team a few weeks before the 2024/25 campaign
Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns are set to confirm Manqoba Mngqithi as the head coach ahead of the new season.
The position fell vacant a couple of weeks ago after Masandawana parted ways with Rulani Mokwena. Since then, the Brazilians have made several technical changes to ensure the team continues to deliver on the pitch.
Former co-coach Steve Komphela is among the tacticians who have been brought back at the helm to steer the team forward. On Monday, they added former AmaZulu and Marumo Gallants coach Romain Folz to their technical bench as an assistant. The 34-year-old joins Rendell Robinson and Kennedy Mweene at the club.
Who will lead the fold?
Initially, speculations had it that Komphela would be the main man at the club, but it later emerged Mngqithi would be succeeding Mokwena. Reports have it that the 57-year-old will sign an initial four-year-deal and the confirmation is imminent.
“The deal for Manqoba Mngqithi to become Mamelodi Sundowns' head coach has been concluded in principle. We are left with paperwork, which should be done this coming week,” Mngqithi told Far Post.

The tactician and his technical team have not had a great start in the pre-season, having lost their two games against SV Sandhausen and Dynamo Kyiv respectively. On Tuesday, Downs will be playing English Championship side Cardiff City at Sportzentrum, Worgl in Austria.
Apart from aiming at dominating the domestic competitions, Masandawana are desperately chasing the Caf Champions League title. They will also be hoping to defend their African Football League and have an impact in the expanded 2025 Fifa Club World Cup.
The South African heavyweights have so far strengthened their team with the arrival of Kobamelo Kodisang, Arthur de Oliveira Sales, and Kegan Johannes.
