Where was Msimango & why was Lilepo benched? Chiefs’ Nabi responds

Kaizer Chiefs played Chippa United on Saturday in the Premier Soccer League assignment staged at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Prior to the game against the Chilli Boys, the Glamour Boys had gone four games in the South African top tier without tasting a win. It explains why coach Nasreddine Nabi was keen on having his best players on the pitch.

The Soweto giants had already lost Inacio Miguel and Rushiwn Dortley to injuries. When the lineups were released, Amakhosi were missing Given Msimango, and Glody Lilepo had been replaced by Tashreeq  Morris

The game ended goalless as both teams failed to take the chances that came their way. Nabi has further explained why some players didn't feature as expected.

Where was Msimango, and why did Lilepo start from the bench?

“We didn’t start with Given [Msimango]. We know that Given previously had an injury, and it has been two to three months now. It was a situation we had to manage every week,” the former AS FAR Rabat coach stated.

“So, Given this week, we are trying to manage him to get more rest. He could have played in this game, but he is not okay. For that reason, we had to make the substitution in his position. For Tashreeq Morris, to start with the match, we saw that Glody Lilepo, in the last two or three games, his performances were not what we expected.

“So, we thought that Morris could do better than Lilepo for this match, so that is why we decided that Morris should start the game,” Nabi concluded.

Chiefs are currently sitting eighth on the table with 31 points after 25 games.
