Why did Ofori miss Chiefs clash? Martin updates

Afrik-Foot confirmed AmaZulu and former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori have agreed to work together.

The Ghana international has been a free agent after parting ways with the Soweto giants in the concluded transfer window. Usuthu are keen on strengthening their goalkeeping department after high-profile mistakes by Veli Mothwa for both his club and Bafana Bafana.

Ofori has a wealth of experience in the Premier Soccer League and Caf competitions which is a massive advantage for AmaZulu.

Ofori is a great goalkeeper – Martin

The 44-year-old has conceded the goalkeeper has been training with his team and lauded him for what he has managed to achieve.

“He came two days ago, and he has been training with the team, he is a great goalkeeper with a lot of experience in PSL, Africa, and the national team,” Martin told the media.

“I know him well because, I don’t know if you remember this, but he was the one sending me home in the quarter-final in CAF when we played here with Simba SC against Orlando Pirates [when] he saved two penalties on top of that he scored the winner.”

Ofori's arrival to be made official before the weekend?

On Saturday, Usuthu will be away against Marumo Gallants who have lost their three matches in the league.

Ofori might make the squad if the deal is completed on time as hinted by the former Simba SC tactician.

“He is a player who hasn’t been playing for such a long period of time so we want to look at him, he is keen to sign for us let’s see what happens in the upcoming hours, he is a free agent,” Martin continued.

“It’s a discussion that the club director of football, the technical staff, and the player they need to have and see if we can reach an agreement.”

Ofori signing will not be good news for Mothwa who was benched in the game against Kaizer Chiefs with Olwethu Mzimela getting his chance in a 3-1 loss in the PSL.
