Why Human didn’t join Chiefs: Parents thought ‘he might get sucked’ and AmaZulu were safer

Kaizer Chiefs were desperate to secure the services of Rowan Human in the 2023/24 season to bolster their squad.

The now 24-year-old had proven his worth in the Premier Soccer League with a now-defunct Maritzburg United. Amakhosi were aiming at having the midfielder in their squad to help in rebuilding.

The creative attacker, however, opted to join AmaZulu, which was also targeting his services. In his first season with Usuthu, he played just 11 games. In the ongoing edition, he has already played 26 matches across all competitions, scored three goals, and provided five assists.

He has since explained why his publicised potential move to the Glamour Boys did not materialize.

‘Parents were scared I might get sucked into Jo'burg life'

“I think, last-minute things, when I spoke to my family about everything. They said to me, ’At this point, we are not too sure about you coming back to Joburg, with everything that’s happening’. My parents are really scared that I might get sucked into the life of Joburg and want to be in Westbury every weekend, or something like that,” Human opened up to iDiski Times.

“So they were just really scared for me. I think my family was scared for me, and they just said to me, ‘No, stay in Durban, rather go to AmaZulu, where we feel like you’re safer, and you can go, you can learn there as well’. And also the fact that coach Pablo [Franco Martin] came in, I was thinking, a Spanish coach, there’s something to learn. If there’s a league that I love watching, it is LaLiga.

“So I thought here’s a Spanish coach, here’s the opportunity to learn what’s happening in that country. Because the way they play football, everyone wants to play the way the Spanish teams play football,” he concluded.
