Zwane breaks silence after Chiefs exit

Published on by

Coach Arthur Zwane was recently confirmed as the coach of Premier Soccer League side AmaZulu.

The position fell vacant after Pablo Franco Martin was fired owing to a poor start in the 2024/25 campaign. Usuthu started with a loss against Polokwane City before again falling against Kaizer Chiefs.

The game that sealed Martin's fate was against Marumo Gallants who recently made a return to the South African top-flight league.

What did Kaizer Chiefs say regarding Zwane's exit?

Zwane was confirmed at Usuthu alongside Vilakazi; the duo will be co-coaches with the club's management hoping the team will start delivering.

“Known affectionately as “10111”, Zwane began his career with Amakhosi as a player in 2000, retiring in 2010 after 252 appearances and helping the team collect 12 trophies,” Amakhosi started by sharing a brief background of ‘Mangethe.'

“He subsequently served as an assistant coach under Vladimir Vermezovic until 2012 before switching to the Club’s development structures where he worked hard to produce some of South Africa’s top football talent. Zwane returned to the senior team in 2020 as an assistant coach, collaborating with experienced coaches Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter, and Molefi Ntseki. He led the first team as head coach for one season, starting in June 2022 in the Premiership.

“With a wealth of coaching experience, a strong culture of winning, and a solid foundation in youth development, Zwane moves on to further his career at AmaZulu FC,” the Soweto Giants concluded.

“I would definitely like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Kaizer Motaung for the unwavering support, guidance, and love throughout my Chiefs career as a player and a coach,” Zwane said as quoted by Chiefs' media team.

“His belief in me has allowed me to grow from a player to a development coach and ultimately to the head coach. I am truly thankful for the opportunities the Club has provided which have shaped not just my career but my life.

“So, thank you to Kaizer Chiefs, and thank you to the Chairman.”

Zwane and Vilakazi will start their journey together on Friday, October 25 against Orlando Pirates.
